Description
Congratulations to the winners and highly commended finalists in each of the eight categories. Inside the magazine, we share details of all the winners and highly commended entries, and how their contributions to a low-cost, high quality renewable energy supply impressed our jurors. Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry this year, and a big thank you to our industry judges for their thoughtful contributions.
It has been a challenging and at times turbulent year for the solar industry, and this uncertainty looks set to continue into 2026. As the new year begins, all eyes will be on key decisions for the industry, including the outcome of the United States’ Section 232 investigations into polysilicon imports, and China’s efforts to rein in PV module oversupply. With talks ongoing, pv magazine’s Vincent Shaw reports on major financial measures being drafted to eliminate the market’s so-called ‘poly glut’.
January 2026 kicks off with the World Future Energy Summit (January 13-15) in Abu Dhabi, and ahead of the show this edition looks at how business models for solar and storage in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets are evolving. Some markets are doing better than others, with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Morocco leading the pack. Elsewhere in the region political tensions, outdated grid technology, limited demand, and currency volatility have thrown up challenges.
In Syria, offgrid solar is proving a lifeline for householders and businesses who deal with frequent power outages due to the country’s patchy grid infrastructure. While the MENA region’s climate involves high irradiance potential, the dusty heat of the desert presents challenges for plant maintenance.
Other topics in this issue:
- Beware of solar scammers: A hungry and low-price PV environment in Europe plus AI tools enable a growing number of fraudsters.
- From standards to sandstorms: The same high-radiance geography that powers the Middle East poses unique challenges.
- Powering MENA flexibility: Battery storage is becoming a core feature of power strategies in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
- Solar in containers: Plug-and-play solar containers bring instant power to off-grid sites.
- Business case for C&I storage: Making batteries profitable involves monetizing flexibility.
